Richard F. De Simone of North Plainfield, N.J., passed away on Thursday, May 19, 2011, at JFK Medical Center. He was 64.

Visitation will be at Paul Ippolito Summit Memorial, 7 Summit Ave., Summit, from 4 to 8 pm. on Sunday, May 22. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Teresa of Avila Church, Summit, at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, May 23, followed by interment at St. Teresa’s Cemetery. Visit ippolitofuneralhomes.com.

Richard De Simone was born and raised in Summit, before he moved to North Plainfield in 1996. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Short Hills, for 30 years; he retired five years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Maria (née Izquierdo); his loving children, Kathryn De Simone and Richard J. De Simone, both of Florida; his brother Michael De Simone of Virginia, and Helen Natale and her husband Patrick of Summit; and nieces and nephews Patrick and Lauren Natale of Madison and Christine and Randall Peterson of Simsbury, Conn.

He was a member and past-president of the Italian-American Civic Federation of Summit, and an avid sports fan, particularly of football, baseball and basketball. His lifelong passion was the sport of horse racing and he realized his dreams in the early 1980s by owning his own race horses, most notably, Wildwood Duane.
