After taking 6 years to get through 4 years of engineering school (Hey, it was the late 60's and there other things to do), a stint in the Army and a year on unemployment, I finally landed a job at Ft. Monmouth doing Gov't spook work (sorry, no UFO's or alien autopsies). Progressing very rapidly up through the Gov't ranks, I moved to New Hampshire where 2 of my children were born while I worked at MITRE in Burlington, MA. I quit the Gov't after 10 years rather than do the Washington DC thing, joining a small telecommunications start-up in Philadelphia with VERY big ambitions and little money. Moved to Voorhees, NJ where the kids were raised while my team in Philly and San Diego developed the world's first commercial digital cellular radio, along with hundreds of very basic patents. The world eventually found out they really wanted what we had and the rest is history. The company now has a $3B market cap and $600M annual revenue.
